INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have reportedly dealt Wayne Rooney a surprising snub, despite the ex-forward being a club legend at Old Trafford.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Former England captain Rooney is the Red Devils’ all-time leading scorer, with the target found being found on 253 occasions across a 13-year stint in Manchester that delivered 559 appearances. During that iconic spell at the Theatre of Dreams, 16 trophies were collected – including Premier League and Champions League titles.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Rooney will forever be held in the highest regard by United supporters, but the claims that he will never be offered an ambassadorial role – at least while the current ownership groups are in place. The 39-year-old has no time for such a position at present, as he is back in management at Championship side Plymouth.

    It is, however, being claimed that he would not be asked to represent the club again – away from the field this time – if his professional schedule were to be cleared. United have already taken a similar stance with legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been removed from his £2 million-a-year ambassador role.
