Europe is filled with illustrious goalkeepers, with the likes of Manuel Neuer, Thibaut Courtois, Jan Oblak, Gianluigi Buffon and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen amongst the best of the crop. However, a new stat suggests they’re all surpassed by a Burnley ace.Figures show that goalkeeper Tom Heaton has made a whopping 104 saves in the Premier League this season, which is more than any other goalkeeper across Europe’s top-five leagues.
The 30-year-old shot stopper has kept an impressive six clean sheets in the Premier League this season, putting him eighth on the leaderboards behind the established elite at Arsenal, Manchester City, Spurs, Southampton and Everton.
With Joe Hart’s future with England up in the air following his ousting from Manchester City, Heaton could well stake a claim for the Three Lions’ starting position at the 2018 World Cup next summer- and these numbers will certainly help his cause.
